Ninety-one percent of prisoners have been diagnosed with either a substance abuse, or mental health problem over their lifetime. Mental Health Courts help in some cases to reduce offending.

Good Behaviour Bonds

A good behaviour bond is a court order which imposes certain conditions on an offender for a period of time. If they break these conditions they may be called to appear before a court.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy reduces reoffending among many groups of offenders. There is great potential in extending this treatment to more young offenders. For every 5-15 offenders receiving treatment, one less will reoffend.

Compulsory Breath Testing

Compulsory Breath Testing is effective at reducing traffic crashes. it is also effective for uncovering offences such as disqualified driving and drug offending, and can deter repeat drink driving.

International research shows that drug courts reduce crime but evidence is mixed about the cost/ benefits.
